/fractures, Dislocations
This occurs when a bone is forcibly moved out of its {joint}. The most common are:

{dislocation} of fingers, shoulder, elbow
more rarely, dislocation of hip, knee, & ankle (nearly always associated with fractures around joint)

DIAGNOSIS:

pain
swelling
deformity
loss of function

TREATMENT - for shoulder:

place arm in sling
bandage upper arm to trunk
transfer to hospital
do not attempt to reduce {dislocation}

TREATMENT - for elbow:

immobilize to prevent damage to nerves in joint
bandage to trunk
place in sling; if elbow is dislocated in extension this is impossible & it's best to splint arm
transfer to hospital

TREATMENT - for fingers or toes:

often injury only involves terminal part of finger & this may go back into position without difficulty; this is not recommended
transfer to hospital
