  3. This occurs when a bone is forcibly moved out of its {joint}. The most common are:

  6. {dislocation} of fingers, shoulder, elbow
  7. more rarely, dislocation of hip, knee, & ankle (nearly always associated with fractures around joint)

  11. DIAGNOSIS:

  15. deformity
  16. loss of function

  21. TREATMENT - for shoulder:

  23. place arm in sling
  24. bandage upper arm to trunk
  25. transfer to hospital
  26. do not attempt to reduce {dislocation}

  32. immobilize to prevent damage to nerves in joint
  33. bandage to trunk
  34. place in sling; if elbow is dislocated in extension this is impossible & it's best to splint arm
  35. transfer to hospital

  41. often injury only involves terminal part of finger & this may go back into position without difficulty; this is not recommended
